Copenhagen to Stockholm in 5 hours 20 minutes from 195 SEK (€22, £19, $28)...

City centre to city centre with no check-in time to add and no airport security hassle, internet available on board and laptop power sockets at every seat.  Introduced in 1990, SJ 2000 (formerly branded X 2000 and also known as X2) is Sweden's 200km/h (125mph) tilting high-speed train, operating on the Copenhagen-Malmo-Stockholm and Gothenburg-Stockholm routes amongst others.  SJ2000s are fast, smooth and quiet, but you won't notice the train tilting unless you look carefully at the angle of the train compared to the scenery!

Buy tickets at www.sj.se or www.snalltaget.se or www.acprail.com

Prices operate like air fares, with Copenhagen-Stockholm fares from as little as 195 Krona (€22, £19, $28) if you book well in advance, rising in steps to more expensive fares on the day as the cheap tickets are sold.  You can book online at the Swedish Railways website www.sj.se and print out your own ticket.  See advice on using www.sj.se here.  Sj.se is sometimes fussy with overseas credit cards, so you have any problems at the payment stage, simply use alternative Swedish train booking site www.snalltaget.se or agency site www.acprail.com instead.  ACP and Snalltaget both link directly to SJ's ticketing system so they can offer the full SJ fare range including all their cheap fares, unlike many other ticketing agencies (including Rail Europe) who can only offer full-price.  As a fall-back on the Stockholm-Copenhagen route you can also buy Hamburg-Stockholm tickets from €39 at www.bahn.de and simply not use the Hamburg-Copenhagen part of the ticket, this is perfectly legitimate and bahn.de has no trouble with overseas cards.
