Verona Porta Nuova: Location map
Verona Porta Nuova is the main railway station in Verona. There's been a station here since 1852, the current station was built between 1946 & 1949 after allied bombing destroyed its predecessor. It's an important junction, where the line from Austria and Germany through the Brenner Pass meets the east-west Milan-Venice main line and the line south to Bologna, Florence & Rome. The city's other station, Verona Porta Vescovo, is a secondary station served by regional trains.

Which platform for your train?
Verona Porta Nuova is a through station with 12 platforms. Check the various departure screens around the station to see which platform your train will use. A subway links all the platforms and the station's main hall, with stairs and lift or escalator up to each platform.
If you are changing here, it only takes a few minutes to get off one train, nip through the subway to another platform and board another train.
However, if you are interchanging between an ÖBB/DB EuroCity train and a Trenitalia train, you will have separate tickets for each train, not a through ticket, so I'd allow at least 45 minutes in case of delay. About your rights if there's a delay. There are plenty of places for a coffee or beer between trains!
Check your departure platform on your phone
Stay one step ahead! If you go to www.viaggiatreno.it/infomobilita/index.jsp on your phone and select Verona P. Nuova you'll see a list of departures with the planned platform number (Binario previsto) for Trenitalia trains (but not Italo trains) even before the actual platform (Binario reale) is announced on the station departure boards. Just remember that they can sometimes switch platforms on the day.
Alternatively, you can see actual departure platforms for all trains including Italo by selecting Verona P. Nuova at www.rfi.it/en/stations/station-page/quality-services/Public-information/Live-departures-Arrivals-Monitor.html.
Ticket offices
In the main hall you'll find the Trenitalia ticket office (marked Biglietteria) and the separate Italo ticket office. There's also a small separate DB/ÖBB ticket office selling tickets for the German/Austrian railjet trains to Innsbruck and Munich, and onward trains in Austria & Germany.
Luggage lockers & ATMs
There is a staffed left luggage office at Verona Porta Nuova, at one end of the main hall, see the left luggage page for opening hours & prices.
Executive class lounge
Trenitalia has a FRECCIAClub lounge for Executive class & Salottino passengers on its Frecciarossa trains or those with certain Trenitalia loyalty cards. It's on the inner concourse near platform 13. It offers power sockets, free WiFi and complimentary drinks and snacks.
You can add lounge access to your booking for €20 when you book any domestic Trenitalia Intercity or high-speed train in any class at Trenitalia.com. Look for the FrecciaClub/FrecciaLounge +Add button, or the link to add other services. You can use the lounge for up to 4h before departure.
Italo has no lounge at Verona.
Food & drink
There are several cafes, restaurants and a Burger King at the station. You'll get a decent coffee, fresh orange juice and cakes from the cafe next to Burger King. If you find a particularly good place to wait for a train, let me know!
Local transport: Taxis, walking into town
Taxis: There are plenty of taxis available outside the station.
Buses: Buses run from the bus stops right outside the station to Piazza Bra in the city centre in 6 minutes for around €1.50. Bus lines 11, 12, 13, 51, 90, 92, 94, 96, 98 all make this run. Download the Ticket Bus Verona app for iPhone or Android and buy a bus ticket good for 90 minutes on your phone. The Verona transport operator website is www.atv.verona.it.
Walking: It's a 21 minute 1.6 km walk from the station to the Piazza Bra and Verona's Roman amphitheatre, see walking map. It's a 27 minute 2.1 km walk from the station to Juliet's house with her famous balcony (however dubious the actual historical Shakespearian connection!), see walking map. Juliet's house website is casadigiulietta.comune.verona.it.
